COTCO offers computers to the government bilingual high school Lolodorf
As part of its corporate social responsibility policy, the Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (COTCO) has donated 40 computers to the government bilingual high school Lolodorf. This gesture will speed up the school’s access to information and communication technologies.
The government bilingual high school Lolodorf, located in the Ocean Division of the South region, has taken a major step into the digital age. On 19 November 2024, an official ceremony marked the handover of 40 computers, including 8 laptops, 14 Surface tablets and 18 desktops, donated by the Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (COTCO). This commitment to digital education aims to improve learning conditions for students and reduce the digital divide in the region.
Prior the donation, a rigorous assessment of the high school’s computer room was carried out to ensure that it met the necessary criteria: a reliable power source, a secure space and qualified staff to maintain and supervise the students. The results were clear: with over 600 students and an inadequate IT infrastructure, the school was an ideal candidate for this technological support.
An emotional ceremony
The event brought together students, teachers, local dignitaries and COTCO representatives. After a warm welcome from the guests, the headmaster of the government bilingual high school Lolodorf, Simon TONGWA GNAKA, thanked COTCO for this impressive gesture. Musical performances by the students and a teacher enhanced the atmosphere and added a touch of conviviality to the ceremony. It was a wonderful way for the beneficiaries to express their gratitude and joy for this gift.
André Belle, COTCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager and representative of the General Manager, Jean-Paul SIMO NJONOU, underlined the importance of this initiative. “This donation brings information and communication technologies within the reach of students, giving them direct access to the digital resources they need to learn”, he said. He also pointed out that this equipment, which comes from the company’s computer stock, will not only guarantee optimal learning and working conditions for students and teachers, but will also increase the level of computer literacy among students.
The Sub-divisional Officer of Lolodorf, Thomas GABANA ADJIA, and the Mayor, Charles Alain NDONGO, also welcomed this initiative and encouraged other partnerships of this type to promote equal access to digital education in order to reduce the digital divide in our schools.
A concrete step forward for Lolodorf secondary school
The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic handover of a computer to the headmaster of the government bilingual high school Lolodorf, marking the official adoption of the equipment. The guests were then taken on a tour of the computer room, where they discovered some powerful equipment: computers with 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB of storage and running the Ubuntu system.
For the students, this donation is much more than a simple teaching tool. It opens up new opportunities for them to learn and access information independently. Their excitement was palpable as they explored the newly equipped room for the first time.
The donation of computers to the government bilingual high school Lolodorf demonstrates COTCO’s deep commitment to education, driven by the strategic vision of its General Manager, Jean-Paul SIMO NJONOU. This gesture goes far beyond a simple donation: it offers the pupils prospects for learning and development, providing them with the tools to master IT and thus actively prepare them for the technological challenges of tomorrow.
