COTCO and the ‘Lendemain Meilleur’ association provide assistance to vulnerable children.

In anticipation of the commencement of the 2024-2025 academic year, the ‘Lendemain Meilleur’ association in Kribi, chaired by Mrs SOPI MAHOUVE Lydie Hortence, organised the 8th edition of its donation ceremony for children from deprived families. In the current year, COTCO has demonstrated its commitment through a substantial donation of school supplies.

On 30 August 2024, the “Lendemain Meilleur” association once again provided assistance to children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the town of Kribi. The 8th edition of the donation ceremony was supported by COTCO, a corporate citizen working to improve schooling conditions for young Cameroonians along the Chad-Cameroon pipeline corridor.

The event was marked by the presence of the children at the Ngoye Reserve 3rd level chiefdom in Kribi. The children were observed to be in a state of eagerness and happiness, as they anticipated the receipt of their keys to the forthcoming school year. A donation in kind from COTCO, valued at FCFA 1,000,000, was instrumental in providing 50 primary and secondary school pupils with the necessary equipment for a successful commencement of the new academic year. The donation comprised backpacks, exercise books, and various other school supplies. In addition to the supplies, clothing, footwear and umbrellas were distributed to the beneficiary children.

‘A significant step towards a more promising future’

During her address, Mrs. SOPI MAHOUVE Lydie Hortence, the President of the association, expressed her elation and appreciation for COTCO, whom she now regards as a partner company dedicated to collaborating with underprivileged children. “This initiative has been lauded as a “breath of fresh air” for these children, who aspire to a better future. COTCO has demonstrated its commitment to serving and engaging with the community”, she emphasised. The Head of Community Relations, representing COTCO’s General Management, offered congratulations and encouragement to the President and her members for this humanitarian work, which aligns seamlessly with the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy in the field of education.

During the donation ceremony, the association committed to ensuring the enrolment of the 50 beneficiaries. In accordance with the association’s internal regulations, the president was also tasked with monitoring the children’s progress throughout the academic year. This was achieved through the implementation of several measures, including monthly visits to families, quarterly visits to educational institutions, and consultations with parents at the conclusion of each term. The parents and students in attendance also expressed their gratitude to COTCO, with the hope that this inaugural collaboration would mark the beginning of a lasting partnership. Expressions of gratitude were offered collectively, with an implicit appeal to the company to consider extending its patronage to future editions.

The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of joy and gratitude, as evidenced by the taking of family photographs, thereby serving to solidify the strong commitment between the ‘Lendemain Meilleur’ association and COTCO. “We would like to express our profound gratitude to COTCO, which has graciously consented to bring joy to the lives of our association’s destitute, orphaned, and disabled children at the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic year,” concluded President SOPI MAHOUVE Lydie Hortence.

The date for 2025 is therefore set.
